BITCOIN STAKING TWO DISTINCT PATHS
Explore two noncustodial ways to put Bitcoin to work with Atlas infrastructure: stake native BTC through Babylon, or stake supported tokenized BTC on Starknet. Compare the asset, custody model, network role, rewards, and risks before choosing a route.
BITCOIN DOESN’T USE PROOF OF STAKE
Bitcoin itself is secured by proof of work miners. “Bitcoin staking” describes separate protocols that let BTC or tokenized BTC support another network or participate in decentralized finance. Babylon keeps native BTC on Bitcoin in a self custodial staking script. Starknet accepts supported tokenized BTC on its network. These paths aren’t interchangeable.

TWO BITCOIN STAKING ROUTES
Atlas operates different infrastructure roles for each ecosystem. Start with the form of Bitcoin you hold and the protocol risk you’re prepared to evaluate.
NATIVE BITCOIN STAKINGBABYLON
Lock native BTC in a self custodial Bitcoin staking script and delegate its voting power to the Atlas finality provider. The BTC isn’t wrapped, bridged, or transferred to Atlas.
TOKENIZED BITCOIN STAKINGSTARKNET
Stake a supported tokenized representation of BTC on Starknet and delegate to a validator such as Atlas. Eligible BTC wrappers can earn STRK rewards and may have separate DeFi uses on Starknet.
Availability, supported assets, reward programs, lock periods, fees, and eligibility can change. Confirm current terms in the official protocol interface before signing a transaction.
COMPARE BABYLON AND STARKNET
WHAT YOU’RE SIGNING
Neither route is the same as depositing BTC with a lender. Each uses a different protocol, asset representation, and security model.
Staking isn’t custody free by default
Atlas doesn’t take custody, but the protocol still imposes rules on locked or delegated assets. Review every contract, script, wallet permission, and withdrawal path.
Rewards are variable
Rates, reward assets, commissions, incentives, and eligibility can change. A displayed rate isn’t a promise, and token price movement can exceed staking rewards.
Native and tokenized BTC carry different risks
Native BTC staking adds protocol and slashing considerations. Tokenized BTC can also add issuer, bridge, redemption, liquidity, and smart contract exposure.
ONE OPERATOR ACROSS TWO BITCOIN ECOSYSTEMS
Babylon finality provider
Atlas runs the signing infrastructure that receives delegated Bitcoin voting power and participates in Babylon’s Bitcoin backed finality process.
Starknet validator
Atlas operates Starknet validator infrastructure for delegators who want to participate without maintaining a validator node themselves.
Noncustodial participation
You use your own wallet and approve your own transactions. Atlas operates infrastructure; it doesn’t ask for your recovery phrase or take possession of your assets.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK
What is BTCFi?
BTCFi means financial and security applications built around Bitcoin or representations of Bitcoin. It can include native Bitcoin staking, tokenized BTC staking, lending, borrowing, trading, liquidity provision, and vault strategies. Each activity has a different custody and risk model.
Can Bitcoin be staked if Bitcoin uses proof of work?
Bitcoin’s own consensus doesn’t use staking. Protocols such as Babylon let native BTC provide economic security to other networks, while Starknet lets supported tokenized BTC participate in its staking system. The term “Bitcoin staking” refers to those external protocol mechanisms.
What is the difference between Babylon Bitcoin staking and Starknet Bitcoin staking?
Babylon uses native BTC locked in a Bitcoin staking script and delegates voting power to a finality provider. Starknet uses supported tokenized BTC held on Starknet and delegates it to a validator. They differ in asset form, transaction environment, infrastructure role, rewards, and risk.
Does Atlas take custody of my Bitcoin?
No. Atlas operates finality provider and validator infrastructure. You connect your own wallet and authorize transactions. However, noncustodial doesn’t mean risk free. Assets may be locked or governed by protocol scripts and smart contracts, and tokenized BTC can depend on an issuer or bridge.
Do I need to wrap or bridge BTC?
Babylon’s native Bitcoin staking route doesn’t require wrapping or bridging BTC. Starknet staking requires a supported tokenized BTC asset on Starknet, so acquiring or moving that asset can introduce wrapper, issuer, bridge, and redemption risks.
What rewards can Bitcoin stakers receive?
Reward assets and rates depend on the route and current protocol program. Babylon rewards can depend on Babylon Genesis or participating Bitcoin Supercharged Networks. Starknet Bitcoin staking rewards are paid under Starknet’s current staking rules, commonly in STRK. Rewards are variable and not guaranteed.
Can staked Bitcoin be slashed?
Babylon’s design includes slashing conditions tied to serious finality provider faults such as double signing. Starknet staking also follows its current protocol penalty rules. The practical exposure depends on the asset, protocol version, validator or finality provider, and transaction terms.
How do I choose between Babylon and Starknet?
Choose based on the Bitcoin form you hold and the exposure you understand. Babylon is the direct route for native BTC and Bitcoin backed security. Starknet is the route for supported tokenized BTC and participation in a programmable Layer 2 and its BTCFi ecosystem.
What should I verify before staking Bitcoin?
Verify the official application URL, supported wallet, asset contract or Bitcoin address, Atlas operator identity, lock or unbonding terms, commission, rewards, slashing conditions, bridge or wrapper dependencies, and withdrawal process. Begin only after the transaction details match the route you intended.
