TEMPO, AND WHY YOU CAN’T STAKE IT

Tempo is the payments Layer 1 built by Stripe and Paradigm. It’s live on mainnet and moving real money, but it isn’t a proof of stake chain, it has no native token, and its validator set is permissioned. So there’s nothing to delegate, to anyone, anywhere.

Atlas doesn’t run a Tempo node today and we’re not going to imply we do. This page exists because people keep asking how to stake it, and the honest answer is worth more to you than a stake button that goes nowhere.

WHERE WE STAND

OUR TEMPO POSITION

Atlas doesn’t operate a Tempo validator. Tempo picks its validators directly and the set is closed, so it isn’t something an operator can simply join by running the software well. Right now it’s a short list of payment and banking names.

We’re watching it closely because it’s the clearest signal yet that serious payment companies intend to settle on public infrastructure. If Tempo opens its set to independent operators, we want a place in it. Until then, we’d rather be straight with you about where we are.

WHAT TEMPO ACTUALLY IS

Five things worth knowing before you go looking for a way to stake it.

01

STRIPE AND PARADIGM

Built by a payments company that already moves enormous volume and a crypto investment firm, rather than by an anonymous founding team

02

NO TOKEN

Tempo has no native token and has announced no plans for one, which is why no staking product for it can be real

03

NOT PROOF OF STAKE

Validators are selected and whitelisted by Tempo, so block production isn’t bought with bonded tokens

04

FEES IN DOLLARS

Validators earn the base and priority fees on blocks they propose, paid in stablecoins rather than a volatile coin

05

MACHINE PAYMENTS

The network ships a protocol for software and AI agents to pay for services on their own

HOW TEMPO IS SECURED

NO BONDED STAKE, JUST PAID WORK

On most networks on this site, validators are chosen by how many tokens are bonded to them and you can add yours. Tempo doesn’t work that way, and knowing the difference protects you from a lot of bad offers.

0101

There’s no token, so there’s no yield

Staking means locking a network’s own token to help secure it. Tempo has no such token, so any product offering you a Tempo staking return is offering you something else under a familiar name.

0202

Validators are invited, not elected

Tempo selects its operators directly and has said it intends to widen the set over time. Until it does, running the software flawlessly still doesn’t get you in.

0303

Be careful what you’re being sold

If you’re offered Tempo staking, ask exactly what asset you’d hold and who’d hold it. Check any domain and any approval before you sign, and treat urgency as a warning sign.

Tempo’s validator model and its plans may change. Check the network’s own documentation for the current position rather than relying on a third party summary, including this one.

A PAYMENTS CHAIN BUILT BY A PAYMENTS COMPANY

Tempo is an EVM compatible Layer 1 aimed squarely at moving stablecoins at card network scale, with a protocol for autonomous software payments on top. Read the network’s own material for current architecture, validator policy, and protocol rules.

TEMPO QUESTIONS

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK

Can I stake Tempo?

No. Tempo has no native token and isn’t a proof of stake network, so there’s nothing to bond and no validator to delegate to. That’s true of every operator, not just Atlas.

Does Tempo have a token?

No. Tempo has no native token and has announced no plans to launch one. If you see a token being sold as the Tempo token, treat it as a scam until the network itself says otherwise.

What is Tempo?

Tempo is an EVM compatible Layer 1 blockchain built by Stripe and Paradigm for stablecoin payments. It went live on mainnet in 2026 and includes a protocol that lets software and AI agents pay for services on their own.

How do Tempo validators get paid if there’s no token?

They earn the fees on the blocks they propose, both the base fee and any priority fee, paid in stablecoins. It’s closer to being paid for work than to earning a yield on capital.

Can anyone run a Tempo validator?

Not today. The set is permissioned, which means Tempo selects and whitelists operators directly. The project has said it intends to widen participation over time and eventually move toward a permissionless model.

Does Atlas run a Tempo validator?

No. We don’t operate one and we won’t suggest otherwise. If Tempo opens its validator set to independent operators, we want a place in it, and this page will say so when that happens.

Someone offered me Tempo staking rewards. Is it real?

Be very careful. There’s no native token to stake and no protocol rewards to share, so whatever you’d actually be buying is something other than Tempo staking. Check what asset you’d hold and who would hold it before you approve anything.

What can I stake with Atlas instead?

Check our homepage for the tokens you can stake with Atlas today. If you don’t see the token you’re looking for, contact us to let us know. We’re constantly adding support for new blockchains and we welcome your feedback.

Nothing to stake here Plenty to stake elsewhere

Atlas runs validators on hardware we own in Amsterdam, on networks where delegation is real and your keys stay yours. If Tempo opens its set, we’ll want in, and we’ll say so here.
